Ameritrade Confirms Data Breach: 6.3 Million Customers

On Friday, September 14th TD Ameritrade confirmed a long suspected data breach involving as many as 6.3 Million customer accounts. You can read all the details in this article by Josh Funk TD Ameritrade says contact info stolen.

To some this may seem amazing, how can this happen? And how could it have been going on since October of 2006?

To us, and others that watch the statistics involved with identity theft, this is just another in a long line of breaches involving many millions of peoples most private personal information. We are unlikely to ever know the details, but experience suggests that it will be some combination of clever and ever persistent hackers, and a few errant lines of computer code…it's a story to often told.

It is this very type of breach, and the desire to protect against it, that first LifeLock, and now LoudSiren (Debix) identified as a important problem that they could help solve (the essence of a good business).

What is great for us, as consumers, is that people are flocking to these services by the tens of thousands and the high volume and competition means low prices for the customer. For about $10 per month you can significantly lock down your identity. Getting coverage has really become a no-brainer, and the information on this site will help you pick the plan that's right for you, and also offer you a nice discount!
