Debix Review
Debix Identity Protection Network
The Debix identity protection network is a partnership between Debix and LoudSiren. Originally Debix used their partner LoudSiren as their direct to consumer marketing arm but this has now changed. In a flip flop of roles, Debix will now market identity protection direct to consumers and LoudSiren will now enroll corporations and institutions. Gone from LoudSirens original offer is the $1,000,000 guarantee but Debix has reduced the price to only $24 per year making their offer affordable for anyone.
Debix Inc., is a privately held firm located in Austin Texas. They were originally financed by Gideon Yu, chief financial officer of Facebook, and Launny Steffens, a former vice chairman of Merrill Lynch. Since then Debix has received a total of $9.3 million from two venture firms, Trellis Partners of Austin, Texas and Merus Capital which is based in Palo Alto, California.
Debix is the company that made headlines when it won the contract to protect the identities of workers and taxpayers in the State of Ohio after a huge data breach. This was a huge coup for the young company as it showed that governments trusted their system and technology over others. The contract gave Debix instant credibility and they have leveraged this success to become a force to be reckoned with, signing residents of the State of Connecticut and voters in the City of Nashville after they too had significant data breaches. Debix has become the number one choice for identity protection when states or companies have large data breaches.
Debix Fraud Defense and Technology
Debix protects consumers by placing a fraud alert with all three credit bureaus and maintains this alert indefinitely, renewing them when they expire in 90 days.
Normally when a fraud alert is placed the customers phone number is published in his credit file so creditors can contact them. Debix instead places their phone number in your file and when a creditor calls, as required per the Fact ACT passed by Congress, their system automatically routes the call to up to three of your phone numbers. You then pick up the phone and hear a recording of your own voice, called a voice key, so that you know the call is authentic. If it is you who has applied for the new account you simply enter your PIN and approve the request. If it is not you applying for the credit you simply hit the star button and that declines the request and automatically puts you in touch with a Debix incident response specialist, a licensed private investigator in the State of Texas, who helps you notify the appropriate authorities.
This system would prevent an identity thief from accessing your credit even if they had all the appropriate identification and your cell phone. Another important facet of this system is that it provides an audit trail in the event of a dispute which means that Joes Used Car Lot can't claim that they called and you approved it. Debix's Services and Identity Insurance
In addition to the fraud alerts, Debix will cause your credit report from all three credit bureaus to be delivered once a year. They will also remove you from pre-approved credit card lists every year, which is an important step as they are a known source of identity theft. Debix also removes you from most junkmail lists and unwanted telemarketing lists which is a nice bonus.
Debix identity protection also includes $25,000 worth of identity insurance which is covered by AIG insurance, a well respected company known for their identity theft restoration specialists. What Identity Theft Labs likes about the identity theft insurance from this team is that it covers lost wages as many polices or guarantees do not. What we don’t like is that if you do become a victim of identity theft you will have to do a lot of the legwork to recover your good name, credit and finances. You will have an identity theft specialist to help you but this is quite different from Lifelock who would do the work for you.
Debix Promotion
Debix is one of the only companies to offer true proactive identity protection in that they stop fraud before it happens. It is not full proof but fraud alerts are proven to work. Debix alone has stopped 1400 cases of identity theft worth a total of $9,310,000 in the last 10 months. Credit monitoring, on the other hand, only advises you after the damage has been done and you are then left with the emotionally draining and stressful task of restoring your credit and good name. Surveys have shown this takes about 600 hours and costs between $6,000 to $8,000 for the average identity theft victim. With 10 million identity theft victims in 2007, and the exposure of 217 million personal and private records in the last three years we highly advise you to be proactive in your identity protection plan.
When you have a company trusted by two states that combines the best fraud alert technology with the lowest price you have a winner and you can see why we have given Debix a very good rating. Unfortunately, due to the low price for their service, there are no Debix promotion codes, discounts or coupons for their product. It only costs $24 per year and is a highly recommended addition to any credit monitoring service for those who prefer to have their credit monitored. Family plans are available with two adults costing $40/year, 1 adult plus children costing $48/year and two adults plus children costing $72/year. Be safe, be proactive, protect your identity now with Debix.
